The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. — Proverbs 9:10

Praying the world will read God's Word for themselves, and not rely on what someone else tells them His Word says or means.

  1. It seems odd to say ‘fear’, rather than something like ‘reverent awe’ or just ‘respect’ (I say this only as someone who doesn’t know the scriptures). I read it a few times to consider what it meant, whether it did really mean ‘fear’ in the sense we know it today (which I don’t think it does). xx

    1. I am not an expert on the scripture either Caz so you are not alone in that. :) This term “fear” seems to be a tough one for even the people most knowledgeable about scripture. I take it to mean like I “feared” my parents. I loved them, admired them, and made sure to follow the rules for fear of disappointing them or being punished. I wanted their approval. I wanted to please them, and not let them down. I don’t know if I am properly conveying what I am trying to say :) :) But I feel when you said reverent awe is pretty much what I mean too :) I do know whatever the meaning it seems to be important because it appears over and over in the Bible. In the context of to “fear the LORD” or people didn’t fear the LORD.
