This is why we’re encouraged to study scripture on our own (2 Timothy 2:15).

Absolutely. Who better to teach us than the LORD? We know “man” is flawed, we know “man” will interpret things to be the way he either thinks it should be or maybe if he is doing something that he doesn’t consider too bad, therefore won’t tell it like it is. Of course, being human sometimes we just plain get things wrong. These are just a few reasons on a long list of many reasons. So, again why would we listen to anything but the Living Word of God?

Exactly! He is our great Teacher, and I am happy to call Him ‘Master’! We’ve seen man sugarcoat the Word time after time again. As humans, we err, but God never changes,

Great scripture miss Margaret!
That warning makes me think about systematic theologies and denominational traditions.
Think about this miss Margaret, (in context of that warning in that verse that you posted here)…
How many times do people first go to see what their religious gurus believe about something, and consult scripture afterwards?
Think about… creeds, confessions, and denominational statements of faith.

It can be taken further Brother as I know people who never consult scripture. They hear it read to them in a sermon, read it in devotionals, exerts in books, etc but rarely if ever actually sit and read the Bible.

Great point sister!
I know someone who fits that perfectly.
This person does exactly as you describe, while simultaneously lives in fornication, and teaches her kids that there’s nothing wrong with shacking up.
And she frequently slaps her little girl in the face.
But she’s all about being a “Christian.”
